Faculty News: Suzan Menihan, Assistant Professor

suemenihanSuzan joins 91Ö±²¥ bringing her expertise in women’s health, midwifery and OB/GYN to the department. She has worked in private practices and hospitals. Early in her career, she was a staff nurse at South County Hospital and Westerly Hospital where she provided direct patient care for women and infants, and developed post-partum assessment teaching tools for staff. Later, she worked as a midwife in a variety of practices throughout the state and became a partner/owner of the first independent midwifery-owned OB/GYN practice in Rhode Island.

Her teaching experience includes having been a clinical preceptor for the University of Rhode Island’s graduate program in Nurse-Midwifery and in their undergraduate program in Women’s Health Care.

Suzan has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master of Science in Nursing both from the University of Rhode Island. She has earned numerous professional certifications in the field, including: Nurse-Midwife (American Midwifery Certification Board), First Assisting for Cesarean Birth, Master’s Colposcopy, Neonatal Resuscitation, CPR, and Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics.
